Welcome to the first-ever Spring Festival on A Falling Star! We are hosting a multitude of events over the course of the next month to finish off Spring and bring us into Summer. Contests, drawings, races, you name it - we’ve got it! We are starting off the event with the introduction of our first ever site-wide plot - Omen in the Sky. Each of the Kingdom’s Corvidae have been given a message from the Kingdom of Stars - the Kingdoms must bring about peace or face certain doom, but the War has been raging for generations. Will the Corvidae be able to talk sense into their Alphas, or will the Kingdoms have to face the doom that the Stars predict alone. We can’t wait to find out! Below is a list of just a few of the bonuses and events that we will be having over the course of the next month.
First to WIN or LOSE a spar using our dice-rolling system will receive a prize!
Character Acceptance Bonus - Be entered in a drawing to win a FREE companion!
Run for High Ranks and get free bones!
&& more!
We are a fantasy wolf roleplay centered around three warring Kingdoms and the wolves that call them home. The wolf's ancestors; the Kingdom of Stars, are directly linked to the living wolves. They give Alphas the strength to lead for moons past what would have been their prime, and the Corvidae the ability to heal their fellow packmates through prayer. We are semi-literate, only requiring 150 words per post at a minimum! Please check out our Laws of the Land board for more information, and join us on DISCORD to get to know us better!
3.25.2019 UPDATE HERE! It's officially been a week since opening! We have added a Pup Prediction System, a Fighting System, as well as a huge update to our Shop! Congratulations to Rosa on Global Moderator, and Tali on Pup Predictor!
3.17.2019 A Falling Star has officially open! We are now accepting applications for all higher ranks, as well as applications for staff! Thank you for joining us!
3.15.2019 - The flowers are blooming, and the prey is running plentiful. 3.22.2019 - The Corvidae for the Kingdom of Astralridge passed away without a Greenhorn to take his place. How will they cope?
Nebula was bored today. She didn't really know what she could do today. Just then, Nebula had an idea. Perhaps she could train with her mentor Vervain! Well, Vervain was probably looking for Nebula anyway. The small, tan pup decided to patiently wait. She wondered what Vervain would probably teach her. Would they just chat or would they learn how to hunt? Curiosity and a bit of excitement bubbled up in Nebula. She began to smell around, wondering where Vervain was. She had to be somewhere. Nebula was starting to feel a bit impatient. The young wolf then decided to stop smelling around and she boredly sat on the ground, snorting.
Maybe Vervain was busy at the moment. Well, Nebula decided she could try to chase after butterflies while she waited. She looked around for some butterflies, and then she began running off after one when she found it. She was leaping in the air, trying to snatch the butterfly out of the air.
Vervain had gotten an early start to her day - having had already been on a patrol of the territory before the sun rose, and on top of that having been stuck with the early evening's guard duty. Honestly, she was exhausted on her paws, but - she had more work to do before hopefully, she could get in an afternoon nap.
The extra work she had to do, was training her lovely new apprentice. Oh boy, this was going to be fun. Vervain strolled through the trees with ease, a lightness in her step and her head held high, a smile written across her features. "Good morning, Nebula! I see you've finally decided to leave the den and make great use of your time," the she-wolf drawled sarcastically with a slight laugh, watching her greenhorn stumble and fumble after a butterfly.
She had asked Nebula to meet her here, and it appeared that Nebula actually made it to the meeting spot before Vervain had a chance to. She would make sure that wouldn't happen again - she couldn't very well let her Greenhorn wait for her. Once she had the greenhorn's attention, she sat down on the soft forest floor, wrapping her tail around her dainty paws. "Welcome to the Forest, where the Kingdom does most of its hunting," she began, "Today, we are going to work on your form while stalking prey. Although as wolves we don't often rely entirely on stalking our prey before killing it, it is something you have to get good at in order to hunt within the trees. A squirrel, for instance, must never know you are getting close to it before you are ready to strike, or it will run up a tree, and then you'll have an awful time trying to get it to come back down," at this she laughed, and lifted one of her paws from the ground and gestured to her greenhorn.
"Let's see your best stalking pose, see what we are working with."
Nebula was distracted when she had heard a voice while she was chasing butterflies. Oh, Vervain's here! Nebula thought, a bit of anxiety starting to take over. And she saw me chasing after butterflies! I'm such an idiot. The tan pup instantly stopped what she was doing and paid attention to Vervain instead. "Good morning Vervain." Nebula said, trying to sound as respectful as possible. She felt bad for making a fool of herself in front of her mentor. Well, it was training time now, so enough of that. Nebula listened to Vervain's explanation. It seemed like they were starting with something simple today, hunting poses. The whole squirrel thing made sense, and Nebula couldn't help but laugh a bit at Vervain's words about having a difficult time getting down from a tree. Stalking...sounds a bit simple. Nebula told herself.
Then, Vervain wanted to see Nebula's stalking pose. "Okay!" Nebula responded, a bit energetically. She decided to picture herself climbing a tree for starters. Think of myself climbing a tree. Nebula told herself, and then she lowered herself to the ground. She looked a bit like a cat stalking its prey, but that was what pretty much what a stalking pose looked like anyway. Nebula's tail lashed from side to side a bit, she seemed to be really getting into the spirit of hunting.
Vervain couldn't help but let a smile drape itself across her face at how respectful her lovely Greenhorn was being. Yes, this was going to be the start of a great relationship. That was at least - if her Greenhorn decided to actually do as she was told and not run off and do something stupid. Briefly, she thought back to her own time as a Greenhorn, and how many times she had to save the tails of her fellow Greenhorns from trying something silly. One could only hope that her Greenhorn would have more sense than that though.
Vervain stood up to inspect the stalking pose. "This is a good start! But let's fix a few things." First and foremost, she prodded Nebula's stomach with her nose. "We aren't mountain lions, we will never be able to get as low as they do in a crouch while hunting. Instead, we must rely on the speed of our long legs and teamwork. Stand up a bit more." The long-legged she-wolf walked around her Greenhorn, coming to her front. "Good work keeping your head down low to the ground. Now, let's talk about technique."
She needed to teach the young wolf the theory of hunting before they could actually do it, of course. "Usually, we hunt in pairs. One wolf will guide the prey close to the second wolf, and the second wolf will go in for the kill. If the second wolf misses, then the second wolf will now begin guiding the prey to the first wolf. It's like a dance, back and forth, until one of the wolves gets close enough to make the killing blow."
"When we hunt alone, we must rely on pushing our prey into corners to kill them, or hope that we will be fast enough to catch them as they are making a turn. It is rare that we can actually sneak up on a kill and simply pounce to make the kill. Our goal is to take them down before they can get away. So for instance - if a squirrel is running toward a tree, you need to get between the squirrel and the tree. Wolves can't climb trees, so if the squirrel makes it up the bark, we've lost. Does that make sense?"
She sincerely hoped that it wasn't too much information for the young wolf to absorb at once - she had gone off on a bit of a tangent.
We are now Officially Open! Apply for staff posiitons and high ranks today!
